Where was everybody? This Saturday night brought us a full moon, where kitties were purring and dudes were howling, but not at this night club.
The club was pretty much empty, we were able to get a drink within seconds, and the bathrooms seemed to have just as many people as the dance floors.
Hey fellas, I hope you never have to go #2 in that place because there is no door for your privacy. On contrary, I was told the ladies did not have to endure such discomfort and lack of privacy.
Don’t let the non-existent crowd fool you though, the set up of Thin Room (upstairs) and Onyx Room (downstairs) has the potential to get the party cracking!
The design of the place looks chic with great visual effects, not to mention DJ Chooch and DJ Yusef, who were trying their best to hold it down with the selected few who were there to party.
Christine Barbadillo, 23, Grad Student, told us she loved the design of the place, and this is where she goes when she just wants to chill out.
She was definitely able to chill out that night, and from what this writer has seen, if you want Thin and Onyx Room to be the spot, you are gonna have to bring the party with you!

Thin was definitely “in†tonight. Onyx Room was poppin’ too, more on that later. With the likes of DJ Theron, Chris Devoy and Adam Powell spinning hip-hop, mash-ups and ‘80s, the energy was vibrant and fresh. Not to mention, with the presence of the Fortune Industries crew in the house parting with high frequency, this place was bananas.
Since there was a cluster of people trying to pry their way passed the red rope through the entry doors, getting inside was quite the cumbersome task. Waiting in line with my photographer just built up anticipation of the action that waited inside.
When I got inside what did I see? That’s right, hot girls, distinguished gentlemen that matched equally charming Thin interior décor.
Onyx Room downstairs was pretty mellow, but down the hall in the back was a crazy raging Reggae rock star extravaganza. It was like finding a clown suit for sale in Nordstrom’s. It was totally random. It didn’t really mesh well with the rest of the ambience in club. I liked it anyway just because I didn’t expect it. I give a Red Rope Reviews toast to Onyx Room for keeping me on my toes.
The nightclub’s General Manager, Jose Amezcua said 3D Entertainment brought in Fortune Industries, which contributed to the high energy that remained constant throughout the night.
“There is really good energy here tonight,†he said.
He was right about the good energy radiating from within, but he forgot to say how contagious this energy was, as it spread throughout inside.
A Red Rope Reviews applause to Thin/Onyx Room, where good vibes and good times go hand in hand.

Just the name of the club alone has always intrigued me and made me want to go. I wish I would’ve listened to my gut instincts and gone a lot sooner. I knew right when I walked through the door I was going to have an amazing time. I’ll tell you right now the $10 cover is definitely worth it. Even if it were $20 to get in, like most downtown clubs, I’d pay it. And that’s saying a lot for me.
The dance floor is pretty much the entire length of the club, minus about 30 to 40 feet for some VIP tables and a second bar in the back. It’s right in the middle of everything, like a catwalk at a fashion show. There’s the bar on one side, and more VIP tables on the other. The deejay’s area is right at the front of the club’s glass windows for the public to see.
As I sat on one of the rocking couches at an empty VIP table, I was entertained by the surfing movies displayed on flat screen monitors. I’m not sure if this is a regular thing or because the ASR convention was in town this weekend. Either way, I thought it represented San Diego and it was fun to watch.
There was one thing the Thin Room that caught my attention, which was the bathroom. Usually it’s a time to get away and have some girl time. Whether it’s to talk to your girlfriends about how the night’s going, or to fix your hair or makeup, I think it merits some privacy –but not here. The men and women’s bathroom sinks are combined. They’re just separated by two walls, with a common area in the middle for washing hands.
My overall experience at Thin Room was amazing. I can get really hot and stuffy at times. From my perspective, if the ventilation was more efficient we have ourselves a perfect club. And I had so much fun upstairs I didn’t even get to go downstairs in the Onyx Room. There is always a next time.
I’m going to get the word out about Thin/Onyx Room, round them up and bring them me. I’m putting out calls as we speak. Until I return my memories of my first night at Thin will keep me excited to return for more.
