Cinco de Mayo Eve

“Put your hands upâ€â€¦for San Diego, a lovely city! One of the biggest House/Electronic producers in the world came to San Diego for one night and turned On Broadway’s huge dance floor into a hands-in-the-air public affair.
When the 2006 crossover club smash hit, “Put Your Hands Up Detroit,†blasted out the speakers, the club went crazy. Heads were bobbing and hands were waving as Fedde Le Grand spun a deejay set San Diego doesn’t get a chance to see on Friday nights.
There was a good mixed and diversed crowd to go with the great energy that radiated throughout the club walls.
On this Friday night, the eve of Cinco de Mayo, there were plenty of other places to go to. But there was only one hot spot where you’d find a world renowned DJ setting the roof on fire spinning get music to an already hot crowd.

Schmoozapalooza

The 6th Annual Benefit Party & Silent Auction, Schmoozapalooza was held inside On Broadway Event Center for an awesome night of making connections.
Various media professionals in the San Diego advertising community arrived for a wonderful night of free food, a silent auction and of course, schmoozing and boozing.
Wilson Creek Winery & Vineyards was in the house popping bottles like no tomorrow while folks here got tipsy on a complimentary champagne campaign.
A special Red Rope thanks to Wilson Creek sales distributor Patrick Williams for hooking it up every time my photographer and I came back for more.
San Diego Advertising Fund For Emergencies (SAFE) and New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County made this event possible as awesome prizes were auctioned out and On Broadway’s amazing staff served delicious food.
Some lucky auction winners left On Broadway with sushi sets, digital video recorders, and Extreme Makeover kits among others…there were even free condoms at the auction...that’s what I call SAFE sex.
KSWB Promotions Manager Sandi Banister said SAFE raises money to help people in need within the advertising community.
“There’s no membership to be part of it and anyone is welcomed to join,†she said.
SAFE has been around for six years and this is the second year its event was held at On Broadway. Just like any other night, it’s hard to leave On Broadway.
Plenty of movers and shakers in the San Diego advertising community were here at this fabulous event having a great time for a good cause.
A SAFE pamphlet read, “If you don’t schmooze, you lose.†Enough said.

Farina Killed It

Usually Friday nights downtown are pretty much dead, but On Broadway had Aria in the house with aProductions dot Net, Tim Ortiz Presents and Minx Productions promoting for a descent turnout.
There was a special opening deejay set spun on the main floor by Chris Herrera in celebration of Tim Ortiz’s birthday. Gary Kindle’s birthday was in the Karma Lounge downstairs, where the hottest hip-hop joints were spun.
When Red Rope Reviews hit this club, Mark Farina was already on the one’s and two’s and the crowd was feeling it. Downstairs is where I was at and loving it. Tonight was definitely not a crazy rager night, but still on and poppin’ in the Karma Lounge to make anybody’s night complete.
For a Friday, On Broadway did a good job for good people, who danced to good music.

Keep It Crackin

What can I say about On Broadway that hasn’t already been said? If you haven’t been to On Broadway, you haven’t experience San Diego’s nightlife to the fullest and quite frankly are missing out.
On Broadway, a pioneer and veteran venue for making a name out of downtown SD’s club scene, shows us what the biggest venue in the Gaslamp District is still among the tops nightclubs to hit up.
As usual, the most diverse crowd San Diego had to offer was under one roof, while DJ George Acosta tore it up on the one’s and two’s in the Trance and Techno room. The bangin’ go-go dancers did their thing as George Acosta mixed it up for the crazy crowd.
“I always come here and have a great time with my girls,†Amanda, 23, from San Diego said. “It’s a guaranteed fun nightâ€
DJ Maxwell Greene was featured in the hip-hop room spinning the top 40 and among others. And I must say it was going off! But here’s a tip for that room. If you get in before a huge line snakes around corners, don’t plan on leaving that room. Or you will wait forever to get back in – luckily there’s a bar for your convenience parallel to the line.
Keep it crackin’ San Diego.

It was yet another an awesome night at On Broadway. With Minx Productions promoting it, this is the nightclub where most of the action was at, especially on a quite Friday night.
Although, the girls had the ratio skewed towards them, it was still a fun night. Of course, there was a line, like always, to get into the hip-hop room. It’s good thing Minx Productions President Sergio Aguirre, A.K.A $uperfox was holding down the one’s and two’s that night…allowing me to walk it out a bit.
DJ Tall Paul upstairs had me in a trance dance as his house and techno music kept the bunched-up crowd on the dance floor movin’ and groovin’.
A firm Red Rope Reviews handshake goes out to On Broadway VIP Host Derek Valasco for knowing how to treat a writer and his photographer trying to do their job. Next time you see this man, buy him a drink – he deserves it!

Tonight was On Boadway’s highly anticipated Pajama Jammy Jam, a special event series brought you by Eventvibe, featuring DJ G*Roy on the turn tables. Also, other entities contributing to this awesome event was aProductions Dot Net and Minx Productions, all deserve a Red Rope Reviews high five for creating an excuse for the ladies to wear close to nothing.
You could say On Broadway was off the garter strap. The bartenders were super cool and ready to serve with a smile.
Downstairs leading to the hip-hop room looked like it was just a crowded chaos. I was straight off of trying to make an attempt of swimming through that cluster mess of sweaty bodies, which seemed to go nowhere downstairs. It was like a sauna with Too $hort rapping in the background. By the looks of it, the people looked like they were having a good time, I just didn’t want to waste mine.
I remained in the main dance floor all night as DJ G*Roy spun his mash-ups and groovin’ house music.
After shots of Patron and a million photos taken by 2E, I threw in the towel and headed back to Red Rope Reviews headquarters and went to sleep.

Upon entry to the renowned On Broadway nightclub positioned in the heart of San Diego’s downtown Broadway and Sixth Avenue, herds of club-goers awaited a fabulous night to come.
The main house dance floor was crackin’ and downstairs was going off too. It just depends on what kind of crowd you want to surround yourself with.
On Broadway should get a trophy with flags of every nation on it because it brings together a diverse crowd of San Diegans and tourists under one roof. A cool mixed crowd and sexy atmosphere are just some of the reasons why people keep coming back for more.
You know when the men’s restroom has a line leading inside; a nightclub is doing something right.
The techno/house main room was jumpin’ full of hands waving and heads bobbing. Again, there were more guys than girls, but the girls who were there were on hot. Phrase of the night: quality over quantity.
In VIP section upstairs near dance floor is where the bottles were popped as music thumped to modern house and techno music. If you have the cash, then flash it by getting a table at On Broadway. Trust me, it is worth of every Benjamin. From beers to wines and everything in between, someone who makes $10 an hour can equate that hour of labor to one drink at least.
It took ten minutes to get into the hip-hop room, which was quite annoying, but I got over it as I sipped on a perfect mix of Crown and Coke – a Red Rope Reviews favorite.
Some lucky females had a wide selection of male dance partners to grind on and score free drinks from. The hip-hop deejay was awesome. I wish I could tell you who he was because when asked for his business card, dude handed me a real estate card. I give the deejay props on the one’s and two’s, but a ‘minus ten points’ on professionalism. Keep slangin’ those homes bro, stack chips and invest in deejay cards, so I can give you personal recognition next time – and not two ambiguous thumbs ups.
Through it all, tonight was a evening well worthy of a Red Rope Reviews applause.
