Great Experience
Aubergine

With a full moon in full effect, Red Rope Reviews descended upon the Gaslamp Quarter this past Saturday on the prowl. After visiting two other less-than-jumpin’ spots earlier in the night, our team headed over Aubergine, the locale that represents the essence of what it means to be a super dance club.
RRR, as always when visiting our friends at the south end of 4th Ave, where greeted and escorted in by a gracious and friendly door staff, Patrick English from DJhere Productions. These club stewards have always acted with class towards their guests, whether it’s to a VIP or to the next guy.
As has become the norm, the place was alive and rockin’. Both gigantic dance rooms (no tiny lounge size, 4x4 ft dance floors here!) were packed with shakers and groovers giggin’ to the sounds laid down by the Lawn Time Generals in the front room, and house DJ, DJ Chris Cutz in the back. The floors were filled of beautiful people all around, and some serious hot flesh could be seen in every direction.
As a first time witness to the LTG, I was impressed with their mix of music and style that kept the masses moving. Cutz never fails to showcase his scratching and mixing expertise while incorporating everything from hip-hop hits to sic mash-ups with a bit of rock and reggae. Towards the end of the night, he never let up and kept the floor jammed with grinding bodies.
As for RRR, another great experience at Aubergine. If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out. This is THE place to be if you wanna get down and let lose to some of the best DJs spinning hot beats with one of the roomiest clubs in town.

You be the Judge
Aubergine
500 4th Ave.
San Diego CA 92101

Strolling through the front door of Aubergine – one of San Diego’s most coveted hotspots -- seemed like a breeze at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Twenty five to 30 young, dressy revelers form a short queue outside the club, waiting patiently to enjoy a night on the town.
Inside, the bar is tame, although the energy lifts by the minute. Diners finish their late meals from the sushi bar. DJ Mikey Beats spins the latest dance music through the booming sound system. And a group of ladies begins to progress toward the dance floor.
The changes inside, however, are merely reflective of a momentum shift outside the bar. By the time Red Rope Reviews has had the chance to suck down a glass of Jack Daniels and chat with a few of the regulars, the line outside has picked up notably.
Replacing the patient partygoers of 9:30 p.m. is the 10:45 p.m. crowd ready to party. Nearly 100 people stand ready to get rowdy as others push forward to the VIP line. Eager young guys stand next to the bouncers telling blonde bombshells “I’ll see what I can do,†to get the ladies in for free.
Aubergine consistently proves to be one of Downtown’s most exciting nightclubs. When the doors to the back room open and girls start dancing, you can’t be absent here on a Friday or Saturday night. The crowd is diverse, the music is loud, the video production cast all over the walls is a nice bonus and it can provide an all around good night.
The biggest predicament you have at Aubergine is figuring out what time to arrive. Obviously, 9:30 was a little too early. But wait much longer, and you’ll be stuck in the back of the line all night.
It definitely couldn’t hurt to come down early for dinner and drinks if you can afford it. Aubergine’s Web site claims that they have the best sushi happy hour in town. I didn’t’ get a chance to sample their raw fish, and I’ll have to let the Red Rope Reviews readers be the judge. Shoot me an email and let me know what you think of Aubergine.

Aubergine was bananas, as Dtown Productions and Myspace brought in Danity Kane to the house for their official after party.
Aubergine was bananas, as Dtown Productions and Myspace brought in Danity Kane to the house for their official after party.
The door guy Brandon Thomason from DJhere Productions provided excellent service and made Red Rope Reviews feel welcomed.
As DJ Freddie Fresh, Chris Cutz and Mikey Beats tore it up on the turntables spinning the latest hip-hop, punk, ol’ school and house, the crowd just danced the night away.
Although this place wasn’t like a typical star studded after party, it was still a fun time. In fact, it made for a better time all around. There was plenty of room to dance and sip a drink without hitting someone with your elbow, or someone spilling their drink on you.
The fine ladies of Danity Kane are even hotter in person. Lets hope these Bad Girls’ of Bad Boy have another album that is just as hot.
A hot girl group inside a hot San Diego nightclub? You just can’t go wrong.
